I can't fault the food here, it was high level and very well done. Staff were friendly during dining. Have dined here twice. What did let them down was the billing. 2 people ordered the "fixed price" 2 courses for $74 each and 3 drinks purchased in total. Upon receiving the bill it was over $300. This was questioned and very quickly revised to $200 and something. Bill was paid and we left. I then had a closer look at the receipt and realised there was also a $17 "surcharge". Not being a public holiday I went back and enquired what the surcharge was, to be informed it is a "weekend surcharge" and it is "on the menu". (We dined on a Saturday). I checked Haig St Bistro website and the current menu only displays a public holiday surcharge and nothing mentioned about weekends. Perhaps they now have a new menu printed at the restaurant and somewhere in fine print it is listed. Enjoy your food here but closely check your bill for errors and hidden fees. **** EDIT AFTER RESPONSE*** I did review the menu on your website and it only states a 9.5% Surchage on SUNDAYS. I attended on a Saturday.
It's the second time I've been to this restaurant. First time for a birthday function, which was great. They catered well for vegetarians, with cheese soufle and gnocchi options. This time, I went with a friend for a girls catch up, a couple of years later, the "ambiance", atmosphere was still great, service was good (the Portuguese waitress was very attentive), the food was not the best. No more vegetarian soufle, only option was a pumpkin gnocchi, which looked quite small (9 small pieces of gnocchi), however it was so heavy that I couldn't finish it. And didn't really have a nice taste, but still paid $45 for that, which I found quite expensive. $30/$32 dollars would be very well paid. They also charged us $9dollars for bread (while we waited for my friend's dish to be cooked-fish). You can also choose a 2 courses meal for $74 dollars. They do have nice choices of wines and I think I will be back for wine and cheese, not for a meal (as a vegetarian) - except if there is a change in the menu. Again, good table service.
Absolutely fabulous lunch at the Haig Rd Bistro๐๐๐ cheese soufflรฉ, steak with a too die for jus, finished with a lovely crepe Suzette. Wonderful service, was recommended beautiful wines to complement my meal!
Our Haig Rd experience was quite a roller-coaster. The service felt extremely chaotic, which I think was a large part of that. We were sitting at the large round table and our waitress went around taking orders, somehow missing the last person and abruptly leaving the table. There was no one else ok the floor so we had to find someone to come back and take the last order - who happened to be the birthday guest of honour. Some of the food was fantastic and some was a little underwhelming. Standouts were the cheese souffle and the chocolate dessert.
Absolutely amazing! From the wonderful service, to the overall ambience, to the amazing food and presentation! We will definitely be back! We celebrated my husbandโs birthday with a quite dinner for two and this restaurant didnโt disappoint. The staff were extremely friendly and attentive! We never had to ask for water refills and they gave us new jugs of water even before we could ask! This attention to the customerโs experience is so appreciated and really makes for a really pleasant dining experience! The food was divine and the presentation was also superb! The flavours were so nice and we left feeling extremely full and satisfied! Overall, a really great restaurant and will definitely be returning!
