Have been coming to this amazing French family boutique restaurant for over a year now. Yugo - chef Delphine - wife and manager and Ophelia - baby and waitress wanted to provide the world with reasonably priced incredible French food as if you were at their home - and it feels this way. Food is divine, wine is magnifique and people are French - which means warm and family - I love this place but these days you need to book as it’s only a small shop and fills up every night.
The food is absolutely amazing. My boyfriend is French, and we were recommended by a French friend to try this out, I had the duck leg and my boyfriend had the red wine sauce w beef. So amazing, and the price is absolutely affordable. I had recommended it to several friends. If you want to try a traditional recipe for French food, this place is a must. Btw, the service is great, super friendly, I feel so much welcomed.
You must try it. If you are looking for some authentic French food in a warm, familiar atmosphere, don't look any further. My partner and I found it accidentally, and I can't believe we hadn't heard of it. When walking in, we were immediately greeted by this gorgeous family of three who run this beautiful corner of France. The menu is simple, with some great classics such as onion soup, beef bourguignon and escargots. We picked the beef and the Canard aux pruneaux (duck) as mains, plus a grâtin dauphinois as a side. Both mains were generous portions, with this beautiful mix of flavours that melt in our mouths. The gratin was epic too, with a crunchy cheese crust that didn't overpower the other tastes. In addition, we had a half baguette with their butter.. and trust me when I say that French butter is just better. To drink, they offer a comprehensive list of wines, but we were driving and opted for some orangina and grenadine with water. Finally, we had a lemon meringue tarte to share, because a lunch out without dessert ça ne se fait pas. To sum it up, a fantastic, homelike atmosphere, with a your couple and their one y/o making you feel as a guest rather then a client. They also have a nice selection of typical French products, from local delicacies to all-time favorites. We'll absolutely be back to try more of their dishes, but as a first impression, it could hardly be better. PS - We did not make a reservation, but arrived around 11.30 AM. The restaurant seemed to fill quite fast after that, so I would recommend making a reservation to secure a spot.
Beautiful little eatery run by an amazing team. Huge shout out to the incredible super mama serving us with the biggest smile and seemingly such ease as she wove between tables with her beautiful baby. To see her face light up and hear her baby giggling was so sweet to witness, and that’s before we even tucked into our food! Decor is super cute and made me feel as though I was en France - we all noticed the traditional looking pictures behind the counter, and it’s a nice touch that there’s a little pantry of items along one wall, if you can ignore Brunswick st, it’s absolutely possible to feel immersed in the French experience with the hospitality and atmosphere, and magical aromas emanating from the kitchen! We celebrated my lovely friend’s birthday and despite the large group, the service was so seamless, they had everything prepared and it was a smooth and intimate service for the 7 of us, even with another 6 or so settings occurring at the same time. They were extremely accomodating of our wish to surprise the birthday girl and helped to make it super special for her. I started with a delicious twice-baked Soufflé made with goat and Gruyère cheese (something I’ve made but never experienced while eating out) and it was super tasty and served with a beautiful portion of salad and dressing, it was the perfect sized entrée and very filling despite the little ramekin it came in! It was the star of the show for me and craving another as I type this! My main was the Canard aux pruneaux and the red wine jus was so rich and delicious and felt very nourishing to eat. The duck was extremely tender - melt in the mouth goodness - and the bursts of prunes were a beautiful contrast with the rich flavours. At this point I was quite full and didn’t quite finish (regretting this now!) but having eyed up the dessert menu already I knew I’d want to try something… Our table was treated to a huge Burnt Basque cheesecake with a sweet and tangy raspberry coulis and again I regret I couldn’t have more - it was ridiculously good and I may have to grab a slice next time I pass. Look forward to returning again, thanks so much for such a wonderful experience, you truly deserve toutes les étoiles! 🌟
« À la Bonne Franquette » mainly focuses on French takeaway meals (with some French groceries/delicatessen items on the side), however I was very fortunate to be able to dine here on 6/8/2025 and 7/8/2025, securing a table on short notice. This was my very first time dining at a French establishment in Australia, and it left a lasting impression. The service was respectful and efficient, with meals and drinks arriving in a timely manner and with genuine attentiveness. The French cuisine was authentic, excellently prepared, and offered in reasonable portions at prices more affordable than almost all other French establishments in Brisbane as far as I’m aware. The escargots (my first time trying them) were a particular highlight - perfectly complemented by melted garlic butter and crispy baguette bread, with the escargots having a texture that was tender yet without rubberiness (a flaw too common elsewhere as per online comments). Both the Bœuf Bourguignon and Poulet Forestier were superb, their meats cooked to melt-in-the-mouth perfection. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, and not pretentious. The space - though modest in size - was well organized. I left thoroughly satisfied on both occasions and have recommended this establishment to friends and colleagues outside of Brisbane. I very much look forward to dining here again on my future visits to Brisbane. If I may offer one suggestion, it would be to consider introducing an online reservation system. Given the limited seating for dine-in guests (compared to takeaway orders) and the establishment's current popularity, such a system might ease the volume of phone calls and text messages the staff manage for bookings. My sincere thanks to Hugo and Delphine, and best wishes for your continued success.
