I absolutely love Shirley's, it's been our top pick since Kenny opened it a few years ago. Food is amazing, service is lovely. Taylor looked after us yesterday and she was an absolute delight. Kitchen staff were wonderful too . We had the pork, swordfish and potatoes, with focaccia to start and pannacotta to finish. The magic sprinkle on the focaccia is amazing. The pannacotta is the best in Perth.
Our evening at Shirley’s was simply delightful. The service was second to none. The food, fresh and amazing. I started with one $2 oyster to test it out, I needed another they were that sumptuous. Our braised roast chicken and pork bellies were so good, we had to share so both of us tried each of these scrumptious dishes. The garlic butter with focaccia was to die for and a great way to begin the dining experience. Service was fast and friendly, we felt like family. Way to go, Shirley’s of Fremantle!
Another fabulous gem in Freo. We called in on a bustling Friday night in Fremantle and managed to snare a spot for 2 at the bar. We started with $2 oysters and cocktails, before sharing a few dishes with a glass of wine. Every dish was fresh and tasty. Must revisit to try the amazing foccacia I spied in the oven. Service was very friendly and welcoming.
I have had dinner at Shirley's twice in the past 8 months. Both times the service and food have been lovely. Our waitress last night was new, it was her first night waiting at this restaurant so needless to say she was a little nervous. But very friendly and accommodating. Shirley's is a intimate restaurant seating appropriately 30 people at any one time. Being a mid week night, there was 15 people dining in. My group of 8 being the last group to arrive. Our drinks were ordered in a timely manner, however they took an extra long time to arrive. 6 wines and one mixed shouldn't take that long to arrive. Last night was the start of their new summer menu. Whilst it isn't an extensive menu, there is still a good selection to choose from. I ordered the mixed mushroom tartlet and grilled pork cushions. Both were cooked beautifully and nicely presented. Others at my table ordered the market fish, roast pork, grilled chicken and eggplant and tofu dishes. Which everyone enjoyed. There are plenty of vegetarian dishes to choose from. I would recommend Shirley's as place to eat in Fremantle.
I struggled a little to write this review. While I can see why this place has so many high ratings, our experience didn’t quite hit the same heights. Service from the main waitress, when we had it, was beautiful, but we would have liked more of it. Service from the other two was fine but unremarkable. The focaccia ($7) with garlic butter ($6) was tasty but far too oily. The beef cheek curry was also delicious, though in my view it really needed a rice accompaniment - bok choy or potatoes just didn’t cut it. A real highlight was the non-alcoholic cocktails, which went well beyond the usual “soft drink in a highball glass.” They were thoughtfully created, genuinely non-alcoholic cocktails rather than just mocktails. That said, the menu didn’t feel extensive enough to tempt me back. I’d probably only return if the level of passionate engagement from the staff rose above “just service” to something more personal.
